BACKGAMMON BY THE BAY

Tournament Results

Retrieving long-forgotten backgammon boards from cobweb-covered closet corners, and prying themselves from their pc's, 45 Bay Area gamesfolks (at least 21 of them FIBS vets) ventured to a very pleasant venue for the premiere Backgammon by the Bay tournament. Entertainment gratuitously provided by the Black Hat (Joan and I have been wondering, What will we do for a follow-up? Suggestions? Volunteers?), and the inferior comparison of Famous Amos cookies to Joan's brownies were the only bumps in an enjoyable outing for all of those in attendance. Our thanks for making it so. And the winners are:

Beginner's section (9 players):

        Main Winner - Glen Lipska
                    2nd - Steve Rubin

        Consolation Winner - Stan Bromberg

Intermediate section (14 players):
Curtis Lucas wins the came-from-furthest-away award, having flown in from Arlington, TX just for the tourney! Linda Landre (Joan's sister) is runner-up in the long distance award, having come from Oregon (not just to see us).

        Main Winner - Brad Louis
                    2nd - Tom Henson
                    3rd - Jeremy Silman
                    4th - Marvin Porten

        Consolation Winner - Curtis Lucas
                    2nd - Linda Landre

Open section (22 players):
And those who wanted to see a Woolsey/Ballard final were not disappointed.

        Main Winner - David Simpson
                    2nd - Larry Mohr
                    3rd - Vladimir Dobrich
                    4th - Patti Beadles

        Consolation Winner - Nick Ballard
                    2nd - Sally Woolsey

Congratulations to you all!

Keep on rollin' well,

Joan Clark
