San Mateo, CaliforniaSt. Patrick's Day, and once again San Mateo proved to be a Bay Area backgammon mecca to more gamesfolks than attended the initial outing (45 last time, 46 this time, and we're optimistic for 47 next time). FIBS was represented in major force, and all who were there played pleasantly, in a pleasant locale and with pleasant results. Which are:
Beginner's section (16 players):
Main Winner - Kris Thornton 2nd - Jason Nordwick Consolation 1st - Shamuel Sharkis 2nd - Tom LanglandIntermediate section (11 players):
Jean Reeves wins this month's long-distance award -- visiting us from Anderson, and who tried awfully hard to make it a family-affair consolation finals (next time, Bear!) Second showing for Tom Henson -- well done!Main Winner - Nicky Niknam 2nd - Phil Gustafson Consolation Winner - Jean Reeves 2nd Tom HensonOpen section (19 players):
Elliott Winslow's place had nothing to do with those fabulous chocolate hedgehogs; he earned it! Really! Really!Main Winner - Kit Woolsey 2nd - Robert Caradien 3rd - Bill Kennedy 4th - Elliott Winslow Consolation Winner - Steve Kirshenbaum 2nd - Blake SoremCongratulations to you all!
What else you missed if you weren't there:
- Thanks to UltraMan for coordinating the side pool -- Kit indeed went home wearin' the green!
- My apologies to Brad Louis for last month's report misspelling
- The appearance by all the members of our illustrious Ruling Committee, and our continuing thanks for agreeing to serve in this capacity: Nick Ballard, Elliott Winslow and Kit Woolsey
What you can participate in if you come in April: A poll: Is there any interest in making this an ABT-rated tournament?
Two good reasons to plan to attend next month:
- YOU ARE GOING TO THE LAS VEGAS TOURNAMENT (starts April 23rd), AND you will not be going to Mike Fujita's wonderful San Diego tournament and you want to practice, practice, practice.
- YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LAS VEGAS, and you need to assuage a backgammon jones (which means you need to feed your backgammon habit!), OR you wish to provide folks who are going to Las Vegas with some healthy practice, practice, practice, OR just because it's a good time.
Keep on rollin' well,
J
