The long-distance award this month (and we think this one might stand for quite a while) goes to Vemund Snartland, stopping by on his way back to Norway. Hello Vemund, and goodbye Vemund! It was our pleasure that you spent time on our fair shores. We'll welcome you again any time (in fact, we'll use your return as a good excuse for a party!).
Thanks to Blake Sorem for his generous sharing of good fortunes: The cake was fabulous! That large cheering section that will follow you henceforth in all your big tourney matches will be fun to explain: Blake has promised a cake every time he wins. Go Blake!
Seventeen of the folks who played in May were there for the first time. We're always happy to meet new folks, and wish to extend special invitations to first-time-ever players: If you know any folks who play backgammon but might be shy about a tournament experience, we hope we've made the whole thing easily understood and comfortable for the true novices. Please invite them along with you, and we'll roll out the welcome mat.
The word is spreading and our attendance keeps growing. What does that mean to you? It means that some brackets will fill up early, so please be sure to be there by 11:45. The draw starts promptly at noon and latecomers cannot be accommodated. We just hate to have a tearful goodbye scene ("Sorry, that bracket has been filled!"). We have a wonderful large playing room, and we figure it can hold about 64 players (32 tables) ..... and we had 54 last month. Although we do have an overflow room on the second floor, we prefer to keep everyone in one room.
BACKGAMMON BY THE BAY is definitely back. Folks whom we can call locals (okay, this isn't proprietary, it's pride) had a TREMENDOUS showing in Las Vegas. (Our congratulations list was nine names long!) Thanks to all BACKGAMMON BY THE BAY players for putting us back on the map, and making it a fun roadtrip as well. See you on Father's Day!
Keep on rollin' well,
J
