Update, for those of you who missed it:

Richard McIntosh, BACKGAMMON BY THE BAY Home Page Artiste, brought his computer so we could all enjoy a visit to the BGBB Home Page. Those of us who barely know the basics of turning a computer on were especially wowed by all that is to be found there (including a new addition for anyone who hasn't been there this month). We even made a practical use of the map feature to give someone directions to a neighborhood location! Check out

http://www.backgammon.org/bgbb/

for contact information, a catalogue of results and links to the major backgammon calendars, fun stuff, and directions. Thank you to Richard for making this all happen, and to Patti for being such a munificent landlord.

And thanks to Steve Clark, Roving Reporter, for providing up-to-the-minute results information from Dallas. We were all able to whoop and holler about locals Kit Woolsey coming in second in the World Cup, Elliott Winslow coming in second in the consolation round of the World Cup, and David Simpson coming in second in the consolation of the U.S. Open. It was really fun for us to root for you all long-distance. Congrats, guys!

Gamescape Publications sent along a new backgammon book, which was available for inspection. It's the perfect teaching/learning tool for anyone who's ever had a partner, child or friend who's practically never picked up dice and who wants to know what backgammon is all about. Anyone who's played in a tournament has probably advanced beyond the focus of this book, but we all know someone who'd like to know exactly what it is we spend all this time doing. Contact me if you'd like ordering information.

We've also made an effort to be your source for tourney info. Flyers for upcoming tournaments around the country are on display, and sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters are available.

Steve Clark gets the long-distance award this month. Thanks, Steve, for keeping us au courant!

We're hopeful that folks will want to enjoy football season in San Mateo. The TV will be tuned to every 49'ers game, that's a promise! However, ... the next tourney Sunday is the 49'ers bye week, so folks bearing t-shirts, hats, pins or placards from rival NFL teams will not be jeered.

Keep on rollin' well,

Joan Clark
