Autumn is showing us its colors, and happy Football Funpack winners this month were Duane Fuller and Beth Skillman. What's a Football Funpack? Something we don't wish to advertise. Come find out in person :)
R
ichard M cIntosh, Home Page Guru and Artiste Extraordinaire, showed us again this month how computers are changing the elemental nature of our everyday lives. Someone's question, "What's the date of the next BGBB tourney?", was answered in a mere microflash because we were able to use R ichard's brand new home page feature: The calendar! Thanks, R ichard, for bringing your set-up. Those of you with your own set-up can fix on photos, travel through BGBB time, catch the calendar, plot your travel plans, and more!, all at this handy location: http://www.backgammon.org/bgbb/
All this, and even more? Yes! Coming soon: Annotated and JF-rolled-out games from the finals.
Most of you know about the ba-backgammon subscription mail list (but click here if you don't). For example, you could post to ba-backgammon if you were looking for someone to share a hotel room or a 2-for-1 airplane ticket to the Las Vegas tourney in November.
If you have some other general-interest announcement to make, space in this monthly ditty is also available to anyone who notifies us. And of course, if you notice faulty or incomplete information being passed along here, corrections are always welcome. We blew it last month; at least, we missed a major result in the World Cup tournament. To make up for it (drum roll, please, taaa-daaaaa.....)
CONGRATULATIONS to Dante Bains for his fine second-place showing in the Advanced Section, and to David Simpson for his first place (not second as previously reported) Open Section Consolation finish.
Steve Rubin, who made the treacherous journey from Monterey, is the September long-distance traveller award winner. (Get ready, in case you're vying for next month's award: J
oan is flying in specially from Portugal for the tourney!) Next month's 49'er schedule: Cincinnati. It's the 1 o'clock game. It'll be on the tube. The 49'ers will win.
Info abounds: Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney.
Keep on rollin' well,
J
