A special note to all Open-level BGBB players: One of the "perks" of playing in the advanced ranks is the inclusion of results in the KG Rankings. You probably already know of the unfortunate computer bite out of the KG Ratings List. An unofficial poll was taken as to whether there was an interest in reviving the list, so that KG could gauge the effort-to-usefulness ratio of reconstructing it. BGBB and other clubs resoundingly responded, "Yes! Our players want this list!", and my understanding was that a new list would be generated. Because KG's last list was published in July of 1996, I'm assuming that this revival will require the input of hard-copy data for an entire year -- a daunting task at the very least. KG has told me that this work is on hold, but that it will be undertaken. Beginning with July's results, none of our tourney results are being forwarded to KG, at his request. When word arrives from KG, we will again report the Open results for inclusion in the KG List, this month's and all those intervening.
Our advance reservation arrangement for the July BGBB tourney is working well. So well, in fact, if you've not already done so, making reservations is highly recommended, especially for the Open Division. To date, we have seventeen reserved in the Open, nine in the Intermediate and five in the Beginners. All divisions are limited to 32. BGBB members can make reservations by:
Then, show up by 11:30 on Sunday the 20th, and you're all set!
- sending E-mail to Beth. When you receive an E-mail confirmation back, you're reserved.

- phoning B
eth at 408.688.9722. This special money added affair is possible because of the members of BGBB, whose membership dues have funded it. Advance reservations are available to any member; unfilled spots will be opened to all comers, members and non-members, with priority given to members, at 11:30 on the 20th. Entry fee schedules are as usual, and the added money schedule is:
Beginner's Division - $75 added Intermediate Division - $150 added Open Division - $300 added (Anyone who's any good at math has already figured out what great equity the Beginner's Division might be at this rate.)
And please remember to bring a board.
FIBS belongs to the world, so they can't really claim a home field advantage: Congratulations to Daniel Murphy and Elliott Winslow for such fine showings in David Escoffery's FIBS Spring Tourney -- both were semi-finalists.
Claudia Imatt came to several hungry BG players' rescue this month: Her scrumptious menu of Caesar salad and turkey roll-ups was surely welcome! Claudia says if interest is expressed, she'll do it again next month. We hope so, Claudia!
The BGBB Home Page has everything relevant about us, fun things, helpful items and learning tools. The Server Status page is new and improved. And the May finals match between Daniel Murphy and Kit Woolsey, annotated by Steve Clark, is soon to be online. Check us out at:

BGBB would like to send a team to The California Challenge Cup. It's a contest between several cities in California (San Diego and Los Angeles have so far been the stalwart participants), and this year it's being held concurrently with the Gammon Associates' 39th Invitational Backgammon Tournament in Los Angeles August 8-10. If any BGBB member is planning on going to this tournament in August, please contact me. I'll happily forward details to anyone who thinks he or she might be interested in going, too. And I've got plenty of flyers and entry forms which will be at the July BGBB tourney.
