Congratulations to you all!

September's tourney gave us the opportunity for several welcomes.

We welcomed Richard McIntosh to the Director's chair.

We welcomed El Nino's 80°+ temperatures.

We welcomed El Winslow back home from New York.

We welcomed the return of the Football Fun Pack (yippee Sadie Wasley and Richard!).

And we welcomed four new players to the BGBB family (Danilo Dacosta, Dominic Dawson, JC Dill and Curtis Melville -- it was nice to meet you!).

An experimental round-robin format in the Beginner's section was successful. If we have fewer than a dozen or so players in this section, What do you think, Beginners? Shall we continue with that format?

We've begun doing some Autumn Cleaning.

Game #12 from August's final match between Nick Ballard and Emil Malek, analyzed by Ron Karr, is now on line. (And all of you sticklers to detail who have noted the missing Game #11, hang in there -- it will be on line soon.) This growing collection of backgammon knowledge and insight is really invaluable to all of us students of the game.

Dominic Dawson, who made the trek to San Mateo all the way from Arcata, is the recipient of the September Long Distance Award!

"How can I play backgammon on the net?" I've heard this question many, many times, and you may have, too. Thankfully, there's an simple and accurate answer to this question. The FIBS home page is an all-inclusive collection of just about every question for Web pros and computer neophytes alike -- How To, Where To and What To are all addressed. You can supply your own Why To.

Attention 49ers fans who are backgammon players: The October 19th game is at Atlanta, so it's the 10:00 game. We'll open early (at 9:30 if you're so inclined) -- come on by and have some orange juice with us.

On October 10th, 11th and 12th, the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church of Castro Valley will sponsor a Greek Festival at Centennial Hall in Hayward (22292 Foothill Boulevard). Backgammon is a popular pastime in Greece, and there will be two backgammon tournaments at the Festival: one on Saturday the 11th and one on Sunday the 12th. The tournaments kick off at noon, and advance reservations are mandatory (call Becky at the Church office (510) 581-8950, or contact Olga via E-mail at gatanis@sprynet.com or by phone at (510) 489-8256). Standard Backgammon By the By rules will apply. Backgammon tourney registration is $30, and entrance to the Festival is $3. I hear the food at the Festival is great -- Bring the whole family and have fun!
