The results are in! The 1997 Brownie Points Winner is ... [drum roll] ... Ron Karr! Ron had a spectacular BGBB year, placing in nearly every tournament in which he played (and which he every so sprightly timed to coincide with his non-annotator months). Ron's showing has earned him a spot on the Permanent BGBB Trophy, a batch of brownies from the BGBB Kitchens (and they're yours all yours, Ron!), a personalized doubling cube, and a special envelope. Congratulations, Ron -- The first of the BGBB Brownie Points Winners!

Please, one and all, come to the February San Mateo tourney (that's on February 15th) for the Awards Show!

The red ribbon on Richard McIntosh's travelling Backgammon Deli was officially cut at the January tourney. Backgammon accoutrements (dice, doubling cubes) and books (including the newly-republished Magriel's Backgammon) are in plentiful and attractive supply. Special orders also available. More details (and the on-line store) will follow.

Best line overheard last Sunday:

Non-football fan, puzzled over the absence of a game on the television: "So, the 49ers don't play next week?"

Sally Woolsey: "That's right. They didn't play last week either."

Players in the News: Woowoo Elliott Winslow, finalist in the Giant Jackpot in Istanbul!

A double Long Distance Award, for Double Brownie Points month: Nigel Vann, in town from Baltimore, and Mike Fujita, from Honolulu. We're so happy you all joined us!

In Memoriam: Tom Henson, 1970-1998.

Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new and old backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney, which is ...
