Congratulations to you all!

Many thanks to Ken Arnold and GamesGrid for awarding this month's winners with subscription prizes. First place prizes of six-month GamesGrid subscriptions go to Danilo Dacosta, Brad Vogt and Kit Woolsey; three-month subscriptions are awarded to Nick Ballard, Brian Farr, Mike Fujita, Claudia Imatt and Kathy May; and one-month subscriptions await Jim Mason and Beth Skillman.

Players In the News: Mike Fujita's on a tear -- winning the Consolation in Pittsburgh, splitting the Doubles First Place (with partner Art Benjamin) in Pittsburgh, and on a swing through town (welcome back!) final-izing at BGBB. Next stop, Chicago. Keep it going Mike!

The extended BGBB family in Scandinavia reports big tournament activity over there.

Vemund Snartland in Norway waves, and writes in to tell us of the premier Oslo Open March 28th and 29th. (Details at http://www.uio.no/~vemunds/OBgK/oslo98.htm.)

Daniel Murphy sends greetings to the San Francisco Bay from the Copenhagen Bay (or more accurately, as the Danish FIBS team shouted in their match last week vs. Australia (Daniel says they wouldn't shut up), from "near the salty eastern shore"), and hopes to see some BGBBians (Brownie-ites?) at the 10th Nordic "Side" Open in Denmark April 9th-13th (details at http://www.dbgf.dk/nordic.html). There's a FIBS party on the 9th (details at http://www.cityraccoon.com/danester.html), and Elliott promises that although the modem hook-ups won't allow a real-time report from the restaurant, he'll take lots for pictures for later posting.

How nice of the Norwegians and the Danes to schedule these annual events so conveniently! Good wishes to all the organizers, good luck to all the players in the fields, and here's hoping that everyone has a good time!

Announcements: Claudia Imatt, our beloved Backgammon Cafe caterer, has a new business underway, doing something she loves (and no wonder, all us fortunate BGBBers have had the chance to learn she's superb at it). Good luck to Claudia as she launches her very own personal chef service for the East Bay, called "Shall We Dine," specializing in customized bi-weekly menu preparation. Claudia's new motto is, "If you've got a refrigerator, I'll fill it so full of wonderful food you can eat for two weeks!"

On a related note, Claudia sends sincere regrets that she won't be able to be at the April BGBB, because she and Bill will be at the Las Vegas tourney. Better bring extra cookies in May, Claudia!

All New All the Time: Ron Karr, Game Analyst for November's tourney finals between Patti Beadles and Paul Tanenbaum, found such a wide variety of interesting play positions and cube decisions throughout the entire match that he's given the BGBB Web site Annotated Games page a new twist (since Patti was one of the players, would that make it a peppermint twist?). Instead of the usual one-game chocolate from the box, we're getting to poke our fingers into the bottoms of all the candies in the Godiva Sampler (Don'cha just love to do that?). Thirty-four delicacies from November's match will be presented in a weekly quiz format style, the problems to be posted on Monday and the "solutions," commentary and JellyFish rollout results to be posted the following Monday, with that week's new problem.

Richard has implemented a fantastically innovative "j'adoube" manner to take a multiple-choice quiz, and Ron has specially geared the analyses to the intermediate-to-advanced level of player. All of us hungry students will have lots and lots of nougats to chew on. Thanks Ron and Richard!

The first question in the series will be up on the page next Monday, the 23rd. I hope everyone has great fun with this!

Happy times and joyful dice wishes for all the BGBBers headed for Vegas -- We'll miss you, but we'll keep the homefires burning.

Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new and old backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney, which is ...
