Congratulations to you all!

Many thanks to Ken Arnold and GamesGrid for their generous donation of GG subscription prizes to this month's winners. First place six-month subscriptions go to Ron Karr, Brad Vogt and Hristo Zahov; three-month subscriptions are awarded to Antoine Azzaria, Bill Caplan, Odis Chenault and Kathy May. Have fun with it!

Players In the News: Once again, we have reason to set off fireworks and toss confetti! BGBB folks had a terrific record at the recent Las Vegas bg get-togethers. Kit Woolsey's stellar record has added a new constellation, with a 2nd-place finish in the International Cup, Championship Division, AND 1st-place success in the Perseverance Cup, er, I mean, the Bonus for Most Wins. Nick Ballard is Nevada State's newest Consolation Champion. And Marc Lowe (who's probably happy he took vacation time from his new job) and John Graas took home 1st- and 2nd-place prizes, respectively, in the Intermediate Division of the International Cup.

Mike Fujita, ever-present in our hearts (and in the Players In the News column) if not on our shores, was Clarine's March Monthly's victor.

and-a 1, and-a 2,

C O N G R A T S to you all!

BGBB thanks NetGammon for being the first sponsor of the Games and Problems page on our Web site. NetGammon is an online backgammon server, for Windows users. There's a link on our page to theirs -- all the NetGammon info is just a click away. The folks at NetGammon also provided us with a gift for this month's Long Distance Award winner, Frank Berkenkotter. Frank could hardly believe that he got a NetGammon t-shirt just by zipping down from Davis, but as Richard said, It's not the miles, it's the thought that counts.

Speaking of which ... David Simpson has qualified himself as a future Long Distance Award winner, having pulled up SF stakes for the East Coast. Best of luck to David as he switches residence and vocation gears to Winston-Salem, NC and to small business -- y'all have a permanent invite to come back to visit us soon, David.

Announcements: Nothing bg-related this month -- Submissions are always welcome! In the meantime, I'm job hunting, if anyone knows of a good spot for a freshly-hatched graphic designer/coproduction artist.

Richard's Travelling Backgammon Deli (it travels to each of the BGBB tourneys) includes books (Magriel, Woolsey, etc.), cubes and dice (in many sizes and colors), dice cups, boards, newsletter subscriptions, etc. If there's anything in particular you're in the market for, chances are Richard has it or can get it.

Entry No. 5 in our 34-week series of backgammon problems is up on the Web site (http://www.backgammon.org/bgbb/). Ron Karr is reveling in this freedom from space restriction by providing us all with wonderfully in-depth thought and analysis for each of these positions. You can check back every Monday for the prior week's analysis and the presentation of next week's problem.

We're not long on history, but we're big on tradition, so BGBB proudly reveals plans for the second annual July added money tournament. This year's tourney is a members-only affair; that is, members alone will be eligible for the added money prizes. Reservations for this hopefully sell-out event (limited to 32 in each division) are also a privilege reserved for BGBB members. There are still May (17th) and June (21st) to practice, but make a BIG note to yourself for July 19th!

Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new and old backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney, which is ...

Sunday, May 17th
12:00 noon (prompt!)
Doors open at 11:00 am
1730 South Amphlett, Suite 116
San Mateo, CA
Please bring a board.

Keep on rollin' well,

Beth Skillman
Richard McIntosh
