Congratulations to you all!

All of BGBB's tourney winners so far this year have received bonus subscription prizes courtesy of the GamesGrid online backgammon server. We are very, very pleased to announce that Ken Arnold and GG have graciously extended their generosity to include all of 1998. For the rest of this year, BGBB San Mateo Main round winners will receive 6 months of GamesGrid play; second-place Main and Consolation round winners will be in line for 3 months of GG fun; and Consolation round runners-up will receive 1-month free subscriptions. June's winners are: David Marona and Jim Mason (6 months); Justin Bor, Timothy Jaxon, Clint McClintic, Jim Milner, Roger Gabrielson and Brad Vogt (3 months); and Frank Berkenkotter, Val Lea, Emil Malek and Windy (1 month).

A very hearty thank you! to GamesGrid for extending their service to our players, and a very warm place in all our hearts for Ken Arnold, whose "support your local backgammon tournament" philosophy begins at home. Thanks very much, and congrats to the winners!

Web Weavings:
The BGBB Web page got some tremendous recognition recently. TopTenLinks keeps an online list of more than 400 (guess what) top ten sites (best rock band, best schools, best retirement communities, you get the idea). For a while there, BackGammon By the Bay's site was rated #1 in the "Board Game Sites" (and it is currently in the top five). Congrats to us (!) and to the other two backgammon sites who are on the list. Check it out (and vote for your favorite site, hint, hint) at

http://www.toptenlinks.com/entertainment/boardgames.vote.

And, of course, why it so good: New additions on the BGBB page:

All the games, problems, and lots of info of interest, can be found at:

http://www.backgammon.org/bgbb/

Players on the Move:
Julius High is taking his show on the road. He doesn't know where, yet, but reports that whatever his destination, they will have a backgammon community there. (Atlanta has been mentioned as a possibility.) Backgammon players of the world, beware! Julius is on the loose!

Timothy Jaxon signs in as a local, heading up from San Diego. Which worked out really well for Val Lea, who's thinking of moving to San Diego herself, and got the bg-scene scoop from Timothy.

Val will surely want to know about the weekly tourneys that the San Diego bg club holds, each Tuesday at the Acme Bar and Grille, Prospect Avenue, La Jolla, at 6pm.

Richard McIntosh's travelling Backgammon Deli has been visiting BGBB tourneys for a while now, and those of us in San Francisco have had the opportunity to browse the books, touch the boards and sample the dice before we bought them. Among other things, Richard has the new analysis tool, Snowie Professional Edition, for the introductory price of $299. The Backgammon Deli will be on-line within the week, and the entire world will have the same opportunities (well, almost -- the pictures of the boards are so good it's almost like touching them :). Watch for a link on the BGBB Annotated Games page. In the meantime, Snowie orders can be filled by sending E-mail to Richard.

This is it! The July tourney is almost here! Membership fees make up the added money, so members only are eligible for the added prizes:

$300added to the Open division
$150added to the Intermediate division
$75added to the Beginners division

(Anybody got an equity calculator handy?) Reservations can be made by E-mail or telephone ((408) 688-9722). See you there!

Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new and old backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney, which is ...

Sunday, July 19th
12:00 noon
Doors open at 10:00 am
1730 South Amphlett, Suite 116
San Mateo, CA
Please bring a board.

Keep on rollin' well,

Beth Skillman
Richard McIntosh
