Congratulations to you all!

Timothy Jaxon stepped up to the Tournament Director plate this month as designated hitter for Richard, who was pitching and yawing through the Greek isles. Timothy's friendly TD manner and exquisite skills were acquired at that bastion of welcoming and well-run tourneys, San Diego. And, his at-bat was a grand slam: finalist Brownie Points place his lifetime stats into Open Division territory. Thank you, and congrats, Timothy, and welcome to the bigs!

While Richard was likely the Farthest Away BGBB member, San Mateo in September was the destination for many a well-travelled bg player. Gene Chait wended his way down from Reno and Curtis Lucas visited all the way from Texas (thanks, y'all!). Dannia Esquivel flew in from San Jose -- Costa Rica (gracias, Dannia). Peter Pay is newly arrived to California from Denmark (tak, Peter). Elliott Winslow and Pia Rasmussen launched their whirlwind-world tour with us (they head to Rio, Japan, Russia and somewhere else (!!) next) (thanks, Elliott and tak, Pia). In a field of some very hard-hitting competition, Pia wore a Netgammon t-shirt home as a prize for her victory in the Long Distance Award contest (she nudged out the contenders by being the "freshest arrival to the country," says Elliott). We are so happy you were all able to stop by to see us. And thanks to Netgammon for sponsoring this sought-after title prize :)

Web Weavings: BGBB's Problem Set #1 on the Annotated Games pages takes a short respite this month. It's a handy catch-up period for anyone who's been having trouble keeping up with the weekly pace! Twenty-five of the original 34 questions have been delightfully dissected by Ron Karr. This is a very special body of work which Ron and Richard share with us -- both author and publisher (and all of the Guest Game Analysts on the BGBB Web site) give incredible amounts of time and effort in this production of first-rate material. Many, many thanks to all of you contributors who so magnificently represent the generosity to be found in the backgammon community. Our benefit from your assembled knowledge is incalculable.

Players in the News: The Indiana Open hoisted some BGBBers' names up in lights: Ray Fogerlund was Masters Jackpot runner-up, and David Simpson was 2nd in the Championship Consolation.

They may not have seen a lot of Texas while attending at the World Cup VI tourney in Dallas, but Texas sure heard a lot about them: Nick Ballard was 4th/5th in the World Chouette Championship tournament; first in the Rifleman Shootout; first in the Great Texas Armadillo Chase; and second in the Great Texas Gold Rush. Kit Woolsey was a semi-finalist Great Texas Gold Rusher. In the Microblitz, Ray Fogerlund placed second in the Open division, and Sally Woolsey placed second in the Limited division.

Well done!
