Long Distances Runnings-On: Popping up at Alameda from Texas was our friend Curtis Lucas. And dropping by to San Mateo were Linda Landre and Casey Forrest, from Oregon. Very nice to see you all again! Anyone who wishes to wear the Long Distance crown at the April San Mateo tournament should be forewarned that Karsten is one his way into town from Germany!
Las Vegas Connections: Karsten Busch's itinerary takes him into Las Vegas via SF, and the LV-to-SF return ticket may go unused, unless he finds someone who'd like to trade something for it (he hints that an appropriately-timed set of boxes might do the trick). Contact Karsten at gaskel@zedat.fu-berlin.de if you know of anyone who might be interested.
Duane Fuller is looking for rideshare mates for the LV tourney. If this sounds like your ticket, contact Duane at (650) 344-5252 or at duane0809@aol.com.
One Page is Worth a Thousand Links: Well, close to a hundred, anyway. Art Grater is providing a new service to the online backgammon community, the Backgammon Portal. The Portal is a one-stop, no-nonsense resource for backgammon info of all sorts (study it, buy it, discuss it, travel to it, etc.), and is one handy bookmark for all of us who use the Internet for our bg hobby. Click on the eBay link, for example, and it goes directly to the backgammon-related items. Check it out at http://www.back-gammon.com.
BGBB Blankets the Bay: At long last, and most very happily, we announce a tournament in San Jose. Saturday, July 10th is the date. Britannia Arms on Almaden will host the Summer Sizzle, a single-flight, double-elimination $50 entry fee tournament, open to all players. Publican John McKay advises to bring your sunscreen for play in their enclosed patio area (will the rain have stopped by then you think?), and promises that Guinness is available with breakfast. Further details (including a map) will be added to the BGBB Web page; for those who want to know about the Britannia Arms now, their Web site can be found at http://www.britanniaarms.com.
Upcoming tournament flyers, sample Chicago Point and Flint BackgammoNews newsletters, new and old backgammon publications, they're all available at the next tourney, which is ...
