Players in the News: A day without sunshine would be like a month without mentioning a Winslow win: Congratulations to 20th Chicago Open Memorial Day Masters Finalists Nick Ballard (2nd) and Elliott Winslow (1st); and thanks, Elliott, for giving me yet another chance to put your name up in lights (and nuptial noodles to you and Pia!).
Happy tidings, also, to Michael Labins, who emerged victorious in the best-of-three-finals Bibi IV FIBS tournament, and to Richard McIntosh, who lost to Michael in the semifinals.
Jim Stern, beloved husband of Sondra, proud father and family member, and happy friend and mentor of many a backgammon occasion and player. A smile is a mighty legacy, Jim.
Chuck Papazian, backgammon player and extraordinary human being, who suffered a final heart attack earlier this week, in New York. Chuck was an Angel on Earth, so one can only imagine what's in store for him in the afterlife.
